Do you remember your childhood well? How have you celebrated your birthday? Have you ever wondered how children celebrate their birthdays around the globe? What do they do differently than you or me? If you have asked yourself about it, we have an answer! You wouldn’t believe how every area in this world has some of their own traditions when it comes to a birthday party!

There are many parts of the world that let their children predict their future when they are celebrating their birthday. When does that happen? While blowing the candles? You probably remember that situation when you needed to make a wish and blow out those candles while everyone was clapping for you.

In India, for example, people prepare the rice ceremony for a birthday party. It happens when Hindu babies become 6 months old. Why are they doing that? Well, as you probably know, it is an ”age” when a baby starts to eat the ‘real’ food. So, they are celebrating their tradition of the birthday in that way. It seems like the whole world celebrates when someone is getting older, and that is perfectly fine. We all actually celebrate it because we love to see our beloved ones alive!

What about China? They are also known to be one of the oldest civilizations. They let the child choose one of the objectives they give as a birthday present. It mostly happens when the child is one year old. They believe how the child’s choice would somehow determinate the future. How is that possible? Well, let’s say that you offer a book, a pen or a ball to the child. It has some sense to me.

Besides offering some object to the kid, people in Korea also offer different food flavors. They also believe how it shows the child’s temper. Have you known how a one-year-old baby is considered as a newborn in Korea? So, they believe how a child is now able to build his or her temperament this way.

What about cakes? We haven’t told anything about those, and that is probably the first thing you can think of while thinking about the birthday party, right? Well, in the U.S. and United Kingdom is it perfectly normal to have a great cake which often has some cartoon characters. The parents are trying to find out what the kid likes the most so they can make a great surprise for her or him.

When it comes to birthdays, there is nothing bad about them. I enjoy celebrating those, and I especially adore children’s birthday parties! It seems like everyone does!

This is a nice insight! I’m sure these kids are having fun however their culture enjoys it. We should stop insinuating that the American culture is the default for the rest of the world.

At least these kids are having better birthday parties than I did here in America.

Breaks my heart to think not everywhere does a kid get a birthday cake. Every kid should get one.

A lot of families still do this in America, but it’s very different than the consumerist mindset a lot of Americans have.
