How to Raise a Child that Cares About Our Environment

Raising a child properly in the 21st century may be a very difficult task. Why do I think like that? Because we have an internet today. Our children can see what they want, and find out so many horrible things we weren’t able to see when we were so little. Besides that, if your child isn’t using much technology, his or her friends may show your child something you don’t like. But, don’t worry, children mostly behave how their parents behave. If you instill habits of caring for the earth, so will your child. Here are some ways.

1.Be an example. You know how it goes, children see someone acting in some way, and they copy that person. It doesn’t matter what you say to your children, but how you behave. They are watching you and trying to copy you all the time. So, be the one who cares for the environment!

2.Being outside. Be sure that you spend enough with your child in nature. Show your beloved kid different types of trees, flowers, animals… Go to some lake, or a river. Go hiking! Explore the world with your child! Show your child how to appreciate this beautiful planet! You will have a great time together, and besides that, your child will start to learn a lot about nature and its values.

3.Talk. Be sure to talk about all the environmental issues that are happening around the globe. Don’t try to hide all those terrible news from your child. Try to explain to your kid why all that happened. Be honest and don’t lie about it.

4.Work together. Let’s say that it is a Saturday afternoon. You have a free afternoon and your child would like to spend some time outside. How about planting a tree together? Trust me, your child would have a lot of fun. Explain to him or her how that tree will grow if you take care of it together.

5.Traveling. It would be the best to show your child as many cultures as you can. She or he needs to see all the differences this world has. Besides that, there is so much beauty in the different types of natural treasures. You don’t need to spend much money to travel. It can be anywhere near your home. Of course, if you have enough money, what would be better than spending it on traveling and enjoying with your child?

That would be it! We know that you will succeed in your ”mission”. Stay patient!

Doing this will just be a huge load to my children. They can just learn for themselves and act when they’re more comfortable.

If you dedicate and make it clear in your child’s daily life, it could be possible. We organize ourselves by creating all kinds of reminders in chalkboards or notebooks, in games and in things that will keep them active to continue to pursue this lifestyle.

I hope to be this kind of role model for my children! They have to learn to take care of the world to then show it to their own.

It’s not an easy thing! I tried to get my boy into these things but it just didn’t get to him. I’ll continue to try and suggest and hopefully when he’s older things can change.

Obviously everyone should raise their kids to care about the earth, but we really should spending time with the boomers telling them what they shouldn’t be doing. They’re the ones who messed it up so much already and at least they should know that they dont need a damn straw in everything they drink.
