The Government Shutdown Has Only Begun

Christmas has come and gone by now, however one thing that has only been beginning is the partial government shutdown.

Last Wednesday marked the first full business day that multiple government agencies have shut down. They closed their doors over last weekend due to a budgetary stalemate between Congress and President Donald Trump.  Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

Thus far, both public and federal workers are largely spared from this inconvenience and hardship mainly due to being told they were excused from work on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, both federal holidays. The shutdown started at midnight on Friday, December 21.

When asked about this, Trump said that the closed government agencies will remain closed until Democrats have agreed to build a wall between the  US-Mexican border. This was a goal Trump has had since the campaign trail, and now he’s satisfied with anything that’ll result in a wall being built. The reason Trump is adamant about the wall is that it’ll help in stopping drugs as well as human trafficking from flowing between those borders.

When he was asked about when the departments would be reopened, Trump couldn’t say anything.

“I can’t tell you when the government’s going to be open. I can tell you it’s not going to be open until we have a wall or fence, whatever they’d like to call,” Trump said. Either way, it may be a while as Democrats have expressed their opposition towards building a wall along the border.

Furthermore, Democrats are against spending any kind of money on this wall.  Instead, they are looking towards putting money towards fencing or using technology to better control access across the border. That, however, seems like an excuse to Trump who says they’re only against it because he wants one.

But the wall is nothing new at all. What’s really caused the shutdown was how much spending is needed. This is what sparked the partial government shutdown, as roughly 25 percent of the government’s departments and agencies had a lapse in funding.

As a result, roughly 800,000 workers were affected, most of whom are working, but aren’t getting paid at all until after the shutdown.

Trump claims that these workers have expressed Trump to stay out until he gets funding for the wall, but that is hard to say if that’s true. Trump didn’t say he was hearing from any federal workers at all outside of those he’s appointed himself or work in the White House. Furthermore, a look to social media one will find many rank-and-file workers talking about financial hardships that they’ll face as a result of this shutdown.

Why don’t Trump leave it alone it’s just going to cause trouble with himself and I don’t agree with his ideas for a wall because drugs is going to come in anyway possible I don’t agree with the drugs but it’s still in the USA but it’s really going to cause problems with the people killings and more and people will starve to death because of his mind set wall it’s bad enough that people aren’t getting enough food stamps to survive on there’s kids that’s going to be worse off he don’t care about the people who depends on it he eats better than the people that’s rely on the support and Trump is taking it away from the kids and the people and the disabled he needs to think about the people not the damn wall I don’t like him and what he doing its stupid to think wall is going to stop the drugs from coming in I don’t think so he needs to think about it seriously if he wants a wall build it around him that’s my opinion
