The 2023 Grammy Awards are taking place this upcoming February, and artists are now beginning to submit their music to be considered for the awards. From the top albums of 2022 to up-and-coming indie bands, read on below to learn which musicians have submitted their music for 2023 Grammy consideration, as well as a few notable artists who have chosen not to submit their music.

Notable music being submitted for Grammys consideration

Taylor Swift – Red (Taylor’s Version)

Red, which many consider one of Taylor Swift’s best albums, was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Country Album when it came out in 2012. What may seem surprising in hindsight, however, is that the album won neither award.

Luckily, in 2021, Swift re-recorded and rereleased the album as Red (Taylor’s Version). Swift has famously had a heated dispute with her previous record label, Big Machine, over the ownership of her previously recorded albums, so a Grammy award for the re-recorded album could be great for her.

Beyonce – Renaissance

It’s no surprise that the woman with more Grammys than any other woman in history will be submitting her new music to the Grammys this year, and with critics’ ratings for Renaissance so far, there’s no doubt she’ll be taking home a few more awards at the 2023 Grammys. The album has scored extremely well among critics and fans, receiving an average score of 91 out of 100 on the review aggregator Metacritic.

Måneskin

One band that hasn’t been to the Grammys before and is therefore potentially eligible for the Best New Artist award is the Italian group Måneskin. The band has fulfilled the requirements of having released a minimum of five songs or one album, not having been submitted for the Best New Artist category more than three times, and having recently “achieved a breakthrough into the public consciousness.“

Måneskin broke into the top music charts this year with their hit song “Beggin,” which achieved huge popularity on many social media platforms. While they haven’t yet announced submitting any music for consideration for awards this year, they are one of the most talked about artists when it comes to the Best New Artist award.

Notable music not being submitted for Grammy consideration

Drake – Honestly, Nevermind

Drake has famously been at odds with the Grammy awards since 2017, when he won two awards in rap categories for songs he said should be classified as pop. Last year, Drake pulled his music from the Grammy nominations after they were already submitted, and he had both a song and an album nominated for awards. Drake will not be submitting his 2022 album Honestly, Nevermind for award consideration this year.

The Weeknd – Dawn FM

Another pop artist who won’t be sending their music to the Grammys is Canadian singer The Weeknd. The Weeknd criticized the Recording Academy last year for failing to nominate his album After Hours and the song “Blinding Lights” for awards when both of them were huge successes with listeners and critics.

The Weeknd has stated that he felt “snubbed” by this, and he will be boycotting the Recording Academy and the Grammy Awards from now on. This means he won’t be submitting this year’s album Dawn FM for consideration.
