This Is Hands-Down The Best Meal Kit For Families
![]()
Last week, we had our first EveryPlate meal delivery. As someone who finds cooking for my family too costly, I was curious to see if this subscription service would make our lives easier or just drain our budget and time. I was surprised to find a delicious, not-at-all-stressful experience with several unique aspects that are super appealing to me as a busy mom.
Right off the bat, I really like how all the ingredients came pre-measured. Also — and this is a big one — the box of ingredients came insulated with cool packs. There are nights when I don’t get home until after 8 p.m., so it’s nice to know I have a little wiggle room before unpacking everything into the fridge.
Now Let’s Get Into Your Questions:
How does it work?
It’s honestly pretty straightforward. Just go to everyplate.com and follow the prompt to get started. They’ll ask you for your zip code to make sure they can deliver to your region, and from there you’ll choose which plan works for you. I happen to be a single mother with three growing boys (two are twins), so I chose the Dinner For 4 plan. And it came out to five bucks per serving!!! I was super happy to see that number because most of the meal kits that have caught my eye ring in at about $10 to $12 per serving. And that’s just not an option for us right now.
After you make your selection, the website walks you through everything else. There is no time commitment or minimum number of deliveries, and you can skip whenever you need to. It’s that simple.
Your box is delivered on a date you choose, with just about all the ingredients you need (save for the obvious — think butter, oil, salt + pepper).
Here is a pic of us making our the first meal, Crispy Crusted Chicken
How are the portions?
As a mother of three constantly ravenous boys, this was my first reservation. But we actually had enough for the four of us at each meal, and there always seemed to be extras. We had tons of potato zucchini hash left over from our Crispy Crusted Chicken dish — so much so that I was able to repurpose it for the kids’ lunches the following day. Of course, appetites and serving sizes vary, but for our family of four, these were generous portions with a little left over from each meal.
What did the kids think?
On a scale of 1 – 10, the picky eaters in my house gave these meals a solid 9 ( judging from the number of clean plates, and general lack of whiny complaints). The thing is, if you’re looking for a super-exotic, complicated culinary journey, EveryPlate might not be the ticket for you. Personally, I was looking for easy-to-make recipes that my kids would actually want to eat, but I didn’t want to sacrifice taste. And EveryPlate definitely delivered there. They tend to stick with ingredients my kids are already familiar with, so I didn’t have to convince them to ”just try it”. And they’re extremely flavorful. We usually head out to a restaurant or grab takeout if we want to expand our horizons, so it worked perfectly for us.
Do I know how to cook?
This is an excellent option for cooks of all levels thanks to the clear photos and simple instructions. The recipe cards are well written and fully disclose all measurements and ingredients, so you can easily go to your local grocery and duplicate the dish if you want to keep them in your rotation. Steps are simple, straightforward, and very short — they seem to cap off at six max. I was able to make each meal, start to finish, in about thirty minutes.
In summary: EveryPlate is a great alternative to eating out, or making the same old boring dishes day in and day out for the sake of time. The food is ultra-flavorful and filling, and the servings are generous. The recipes are easy to make and there’s always something to satisfy whatever your family is in the mood for.
