Six SNL Upcoming Hosts And Guest Musicians

Last month, everyone’s favorite comedy variety show brought the heat with its hosts and guest musicians. In November 2019, Saturday Night Live welcomed actress Kristen Stewart, musician Harry Styles, and comedian (and SNL alum) Will Ferrell. Styles, a One Direction member who has embarked on a wildly successful solo career during the boy band’s hiatus, also took on musical guest duties for his episode, with Coldplay filling the role two weeks before Styles and rapidly rising pop iconoclast King Princess taking the stage the week after.
December will prove to be even more jam-packed for SNL. This weekend, a longtime pop star now better known for her acting will host, and a smash-hit rapper will perform. A longtime Hollywood A-lister will host the weekend after, with another One Direction member performing. Then, the month’s SNL run will end with an iconic show alum and 2019’s biggest breakout musician sharing a potentially legendary night. Learn all about SNL’s upcoming hosts and guest musicians below.
December 7, 2019
Host: Jennifer Lopez
Musical guest: DaBaby
In the ‘90s, Jennifer Lopez propelled herself to international fame with hits such as “Waiting for Tonight,” a streak she continued with in the early ‘00s with “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” and “Jenny from the Block.” These days, she’s best known as an actress, so she’ll be hosting the December 7 episode of SNL – thanks mostly to her acclaimed leading role in the recent blockbuster film Hustlers – with recent hip-hop breakout DaBaby performing.

Host: Scarlett Johannson
Musical guest: Niall Horan
Scarlett Johannson has long been a household name, but she’s had an especially huge 2019. She reappeared as the Marvel Comics character Black Widow in Avengers: Endgame, now the highest-grossing film ever released. She then starred in Marriage Story and played a supporting role in Jojo Rabbit. Her SNL hosting slot will be the cherry on top of a massive year for an actress who’s been in the public eye for over two decades.
Accompanying Johannson as musical guest will be Niall Horan. Like Harry Styles, Horan too is a member of One Direction who has launched a successful solo career following the group’s hiatus. Horan most recently released a song called “Nice to Meet Ya” in October, one of his only new tracks following his eagerly awaited 2017 debut album Flicker.

Host: Eddie Murphy
Musical guest: Lizzo
Eddie Murphy is arguably the most iconic living actor-comedian to emerge from SNL. His time with the show ended in 1984, after which he only returned to the show once, in 2015 (most other SNL alumni who are as globally famous as Murphy have returned far more frequently). The announcement that Murphy would return to host was thus huge enough to generate headlines – but the night’s musical guest almost threatens to overshadow him.
Only one musician is omnipresent enough in 2019 to possibly outdo one of SNL’s most beloved alumni: Lizzo. The inescapable breakout star of 2019 will perform the same night as Murphy hosts, capping off a year that most recently resulted in more 2020 Grammy nominations than any other artist. If any night in December is the one to watch SNL, it’s this one.
