The World Series is the most important baseball series of the year and one of the most viewed sports events in the entire world. Two of the best teams in baseball have been going head-to-head for the last several days, performing for an audience of over 11 million baseball fans. With the 2022 World Series now in full “swing,” here’s an update on how it’s going.

Who’s winning the World Series?

The World Series is a seven-game series between two teams to crown the best baseball team in America. If you haven’t followed baseball much this year, the two contenders in the World Series this season are the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Astros came into the series as the favorite to win the title, but so far, it’s the Phillies who have the lead. The Phillies currently have a 2-1 lead, but the first team to four wins will win the series, so there’s still plenty of time for things to go either way.

Game 1

The Astros knew they were widely expected to win the series this year, so they came out swinging in the first game. Two home runs from Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker helped carry the team to a 5-0 lead in the third inning, but this year’s Phillies team isn’t one to lie down and give up.

The Phillies played an impressive next two innings, culminating with a double from catcher J.T. Realmuto to tie things up in the fifth inning. The next four innings were balanced with no scoring from either team, and the game went into overtime. In the tenth inning, however, Realmuto came through again with a home run to right field, winning the game 6-5.

Game 2

The Astros team this year isn’t used to defeat, so they pulled it together for a needed comeback win in game two of the series. The Astros did what they do best in this game, playing airtight defense in the outfield and hitting solid doubles and one home run.

Game two ended with a score of 5-2 for the Astros, bringing the series to a 1-1 tie. After the first two games, predictions for which team would win the series stabilized, with both teams seeming to have a good shot of taking home this year’s title.

Game 3

Game three of the series was one of the Phillies’ best performances of the year, and they scored a whopping seven points off home runs. Phillies players Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and Brandon Marsh each scored home runs in the first two innings, bringing the game to a quick 4-0 lead for the Phillies.

The Astros tried to fight back, but their pitching game was clearly off, and Phillies players Kyle Schwarber and Rhys Hoskins hit two more home runs in the fifth inning to further the team’s lead to 7-0. Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. had a rough evening, tying the record for the most home runs allowed in a single World Series.
