From intense thrillers and dramas to anime and fantasy shows, 2022 produced some of the best TV shows of the last few years. You’ve probably binge-watched a few shows yourself on your streaming service of choice, but if you’re running out of items on your to-watch list and you’re looking for something new, here are four TV shows many people said were the best of 2022.

The Bear, Hulu/FX

Hulu’s The Bear was possibly the biggest breakthrough TV show of the year, and it was widely praised for its organic filmography and the performances of its cast, especially star Jeremy Allen White. White plays Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, and the series follows him as he moves back to Chicago to help his family save their struggling sandwich shop.

The Bear was nominated for the People’s Choice Awards’ Favorite Bingeworthy Show of 2022, Satellite Awards’ Best Drama Series, and the Critics’ Choice Awards’ Best Comedy Series.

Andor, Disney+

For Star Wars fans, the new Disney+ series Andor is a must-see, according to reviews by other fans. The series received an 8.4 out of 10 rating on IMDB and a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and was hailed for being a “mature entry” into the Star Wars universe. Andor follows Rebel spy Cassian Andor over the course of the five years leading up to the events of Star Wars: Rogue One.

The show doesn’t ride as much on the popularity of existing Star Wars characters as some other Star Wars films and shows have, and instead shows the lives of other characters that may seem minor in the universe but have significant roles to play.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Netflix

One of the year’s best-reviewed TV shows is actually an animated show, Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The show was rated 8.4 out of 10 on IMDB and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and was acclaimed by both critics and fans.

This show took the universe of the Cyberpunk video games and tabletop roleplaying games and turned it into a series, and was called an “exceptionally stylish anime adaptation” of the franchise. The show was nominated for Best Adaptation at The Game Awards 2022.

Reacher, Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime’s new show Reacher was another big hit this year, and it received an impressive 8.1 out of 10 on IMDB and a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. This show, based on the book series of the same name by Lee Childs, follows former military policeman Jack Reacher as he takes down dangerous criminals while drifting from town to town. Whether you’ve read the books or not, this show is worth checking out.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first adaptation of Childs’ Jack Reacher books, as the character was previously portrayed by Tom Cruise in the 2012 movie Jack Reacher as well as its 2016 sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Fans of the books have praised the new Amazon Prime TV show over the movies, however, especially for the much more book-accurate casting of the 6’4”, 200-lb Ritchson in the title role.
