Together Together

Available on Hulu August 10

In Together Together, a young woman named Anna (Patti Harrison) signs on to be his gestational surrogate for a much older straight man without a partner or children (Ed Helms). They develop a relationship that’s not quite romantic, although the movie is classified as a romantic comedy. Even worse, the relationship turns emotionally complicated during Anna’s pregnancy. 

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild 

Available on Netflix August 12

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild is a 3D animated movie that follows a young Ace Cadet’s journey to seek revenge on an elder dragon that attacked his village. If you’re looking to watch a somewhat short movie, Monster Hunter might fit the bill since it’s 58 minutes long. Old-school gamers will likely appreciate the movie’s retro aesthetic. 

Nine Perfect Strangers

Available on Hulu August 18 

Based on a book by Liane Moriarty, the show Nine Perfect Strangers takes place at a health-and-wellness resort that guarantees transformation. Nine stressed people decide to stay at the center for 10 days. The show comprises eight episodes and stars Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, and Luke Evans.

Reminiscence 

Available on HBO Max August 20

The upcoming sci-fi thriller movie Reminiscence, which will be releasing in theaters and HBO Max, is about the importance of memories and the moments that trigger strong emotional reactions. Hugh Jackson will play the main character, Nick Bannister. 

When Nick’s world becomes depressing, he wants to relive happier memories. It turns out there’s a service that can help him with that. As he and other characters use this service more, they learn that looking into the past can be dangerous.

Cruella 

Available on Disney+ August 27

Disney’s 101 Dalmations character Cruella de Vil is known for her fashion, and now, the character has her spinoff film, Cruella. The movie is a crime comedy film based on the Cruella character as depicted in Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians

As a young girl, Cruella—then known as Estella—has a knack for fashion but can be mischievous, thus earning the Cruella nickname from her mother. She also grows up without any friends due to her white hair caused by poliosis. Cruella shows Estella’s transformation into the infamous Cruella and stars Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Joey Fry, and Paul Walter Hauser.

The Chair

Available on Netflix August 27

The Chair, a six-episode satirical show, follows the story of Professor Ji-Yoon, played by Sandra Oh. The professor becomes chair of the English Department at Pembroke University. The professor feels like she has a lot to prove in her department that was already failing since she started her new role as the chair.
