1. It’s a Sin (Season 1)

Metacritic score: 91

Rotten Tomatoes score: 98

It’s a Sin, HBO Max’s limited series, is a story about a group of young Londoners experiencing the AIDS crisis. The show has three main point-of-view characters.

It’s a Sin boldly displays how horrible AIDS was in the 1980s for those who were infected given the lack of medical knowledge around AIDS at the time. The show also doesn’t shy away from how AIDS was exacerbated by homophobic attitudes in England and beyond.

2. Judas and the Black Messiah

Metacritic score: 85

Rotten Tomatoes score: 96

Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated film Judas and the Black Messiah is about how the American criminal justice establishment sought to stop and destroy the mid-century civil rights movement.

The Black Messiah is a young Black Panther leader Fred Hampton, played by Daniel Kaluuya. Hampton’s name is not as well-known as, say, Martin Luther King, Jr., but his story and Judas and the Black Messiah give a harrowing view into how the criminal justice reacts to certain activists.

3. Stray

Metacritic score: 83

Rotten Tomatoes score: 96

Stray is a documentary about an Istanbul street dog named Zeytin as she searches for kindness while she roams the streets of her city. The movie captures how she is a savvy survivor who knows how to cross busy streets and get food.

Zeytin also knows a shy puppy Kartal and a caring dog named Nazar, as well as a trio of homeless Syrian refugee boys. In Stray, you can see a group of vagabonds surviving, resting, and playing.

4. Raya and the Last Dragon

Raya and the Last Dragon is an animated movie about a girl who goes on an adventure. Raya is a skilled confident fighter who is Disney’s first Southeast Asian princess. 5. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (Season 1)

Metacritic score: 74

Rotten Tomatoes score: 89

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is a re-introduction to two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s lesser-featured heroes. The Falcon, Sam Wilson, struggles with the legacy of Steve Rodgers, also known as Captain America.

Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier, also struggles with how to make amends for his crimes. This show explores The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’s issues and how they overcome them.

6. Invincible (Season 1)

Metacritic score: 73

Rotten Tomatoes score: 96

Invincible is an animated superhero drama series on Amazon Prime Video. The show is based on a comic book series of the same name.
