We all like Teddy Bears. Have you ever thought how this toy got a name? I wondered a few times and never found the real truth. But, today, we will reveal the history of this beloved toy. People use it for different purposes. We may give a Teddy Bear to someone we love, we give this toy to children, or we just buy it because it is so cute. Let’s find out the story if this toy’s name!
Can you believe that this story is almost 120 years old? When it all began? Well, it began when Roosevelt went hunting. He didn’t go for a regular hunting, but for the bear one. It all happened in Mississippi.
Roosevelt had a guide which was a slave and participated in the World War II. His name was Holt Collier. He wanted to shot a bear for the president. When the hunt began, they came upon a black bear. Of course, as Holt was Roosevelt’s guide, he wanted him to kill the bear.
But, what messed up their plan was a situation where that bear killed one of the Collier’s dogs. These, of course, weren’t just ‘regular’ dogs, but hunting ones. They became afraid and started panicking. Besides that, the president needed to do the final shot of the bear. But, these two guys needed to protect everyone in the first place.
What happened next is that Roosevelt’s guide tied up the bear to the tree. The president finally arrived. They expected him to take that final shot to end such a struggle. But, instead of shooting a black bear the president wanted to release the animal. It seemed like he didn’t want it to suffer. That is the exact day this toy got such a name.
How do you look at the teddy bears now? Would you react the same as the president did? I would, definitely. Such a poor animal was just fighting to survive, and nothing more than that. I came to realize how these men got their lesson. They have come up with a conclusion how we need to live like one with nature, and not to destroy it.
Why would anyone kill the animals if we have something to eat? Who would eat a black bear? Luckily for us, and also for that black bear, we have a Teddy Bear nowadays.
So, yes, you can continue buying such a present to your beloved ones. It is a sign of humanity and true human emotions.
