What Medical Practitioners Do When He’s Not the Father

As many as 9% of kids have misattributed parentage, according to assessments. Obviously, these results might be skewed, because if a mother knows that her child’s father isn’t exactly the biological father, she may decline to participate in the survey.

In any case, we realize that this happens, and every now and then, the would-be father finds out the deceit in the delivery room. Doctors, nurses and other medical practitioners on Reddit shared their accounts of family reactions when they learned that their new baby clearly wasn’t the father’s biological child.

Get comfortable, because some of these stories are pretty… awkward.

  1. When life offers you lemons, make lemonade

People cheat, so when you get to know you’ve just got a 50 percent shot of being a dad, you should probably see it through before settling on any silly choices.

Racheltower, a Reddit user’s father is an obstetrician, and she gave an account of a woman visiting her father’s office with her spouse and her boyfriend.

“They don’t know who the father is, and they can’t find out until the baby is born,” she wrote, “so both men want to be there during doctor appointments and the birth.”

It appeared to be an incredibly crazy situation, surprisingly; both potential dads were cordial with each other.

  1. Here, there’s really no doubt about parentage

Idkjill shared one of the more confounding stories she experienced at work about a mixed couple. “The father was black, and the mother was white.” She wrote. “The father was so involved and so ecstatic about becoming a father for the second time with this woman.”

“Nothing really seemed off until she started pushing. The baby girl came out completely white, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Usually, black babies come out a little pale, but this was just straight-out white. We had to escort the father out for fear of him becoming violent, but he just sat outside the room, on the ground with his face in his hands. That was one of the saddest moments I think I’ve ever seen.”

  1. The child’s appearance isn’t the only deciding factor

“One day, another woman who worked in the building was visiting the lab,” Reddit user Fuzzus628 explained, giving the account of his mother’s experience while working at a medical lab.

“During the conversation, she mentioned that she was blood type X, her husband was type Y, and their child was type Z. I don’t remember the specific types.”

According to Fuzzus628, one of the younger lab techs recognized the outlandish situation and called it out.

“The doctor in the lab just stared daggers at him. Luckily, the visitor either didn’t notice or didn’t care, and moved along shortly after. My mom still remembers it as one of the most awkward moments she’d ever been privy to.”

  1. This one is particularly infuriating.

RavenousButterfly told a story of a child coming into the ICU with a case of a life-threatening infection caused by herpes. Usually, medical practitioners try to treat herpes while the mother is still pregnant as it reduces the risk of serious complications, but according to the Reddit user, “The mom didn’t even know she was a carrier.

So where did it come from? This is the awkward and sickening moment when everyone in the room realized where herpes came from. Turns out, the father had an affair and contracted the virus from his lover.”

So, yeah, while this woman’s baby is on the verge of death, she finds out her husband has been cheating on her and his cheating is the reason their baby is sick.

While this isn’t a case of the wrong parentage, it is certainly crazy enough to make the list.
