Since its launch in September of 2019, Apple TV+ has been hard at work trying to cement its place alongside other streaming giants like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max. While it doesn’t have quite the viewership of other platforms yet, it still produces some fantastic and massively popular movies shows, some of which are highlighted below.

Dickinson (2019-2021)

A strangely counterintuitive show, Dickinson tells the story of poet Emily Dickinson in a different way than usual. The show explores Dickinson’s life as a young woman in the early 19th century through a comedic lens, casting a different light on the poet who is often portrayed in a much darker and gloomier way. Fans have enjoyed seeing Dickenson, played by Hailey Steinfeld, as she tries to rise to fame as a poet despite the strict gender norms of her time.

Central Park (2020- )

The animated series Central Park is the story of the Tillerman family. The father Owen, voiced by Leslie Odom Jr., is the manager of Central Park in New York City, and the series shows the family dealing with all sorts of everyday Central Park and New York City events. The show is appropriate and enjoyable for both kids and adults and has received great reviews from both critics and casual fans.

Little America (2020- )

Little America is an anthology of stories about immigrants who came to America. Each episode is a self-contained story, which makes this show a great choice for viewers who have trouble sitting through an entire series. Some stories are funny, while others are more dramatic or even romantic, so there’s something in Little America for everyone to enjoy.

The Shrink Next Door (2021)

The Shrink Next Door is an Apple TV+ miniseries starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. Ferrell plays a naive man named Marty Markowitz who is controlled and manipulated by smooth-talking psychiatrist Isaac Hershkopf, played by Rudd. The show is based on the true story of Hershkopf, who last year lost his medical license for exploiting patients for his own gain.

Ted Lasso (2020- )

You can’t make a list of Apple TV+ originals without arguably the most talked-about one, Ted Lasso. This wholesome TV show follows soccer coach Ted Lasso, who’s been hired by the new owner of the AFC Richmond soccer team to take down her ex-husband’s favorite team.

Boys State (2020)

Boys State is a documentary that follows 1100 boys in Texas as they attend Boys State, a summer leadership program. The show highlights the somewhat troublesome political division that’s incited in American young people at an early age, as candidates for the Boys State Governorship struggle back and forth.

Swagger (2021- )

This show, created by NBA basketball legend Kevin Durant, tells the story of a young basketball prodigy and how he develops as a player and as a person. The story was inspired by Durant’s own life and his experience playing AAU basketball in his youth and trying to find his own sense of “swagger.”
