News of an alleged scandal has been circulating recently due to claims that Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Ricky Martin was involved in a romantic relationship with his nephew and physically and emotionally abused him. Ricky’s restraining order
On July 1, Martin was served a temporary restraining order from an unnamed individual who allegedly dated him for seven months and claimed to have suffered domestic abuse. Martin denied the allegations personally and through his lawyer, Marty Singer. Due to the sensitive legal nature of the case, Martin has not said much in person or on social media about it.
In the papers filed for the restraining order, the then-anonymous individual claimed that Martin exercised “physical and psychological attacks” against him over the course of their seven-month relationship and that Martin had refused to let the relationship go when it ended nearly two months ago. The individual claimed that he had seen Martin loitering near his home several times and that Martin was consuming large amounts of drugs and alcohol.
Who is Ricky’s nephew?
Ricky’s brother Eric Martin confirmed in a video that the individual who had filed a restraining order against Martin was his nephew, 21-year-old Dennis Yadiel Sanchez. Sanchez’s mother is Martin’s half-sister Vanessa.
The case has been dismissed
Martin was expected to appear in court last Thursday, July 21, to determine whether the restraining order against him would be extended. That day, however, Sanchez chose to withdraw all the abuse allegations against Martin. Marty Singer, Martin’s lawyer, said in an official statement, “The accuser confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was his alone, without any outside influence or pressure, and the accuser confirmed he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter.”
Sanchez has not officially retracted his claim of being in a romantic relationship with Martin, but Martin and his legal team maintain that the claim is completely unwarranted. Statements from Martin’s lawyers and several family members indicate that Sanchez suffers from some sort of mental health issue.
Singer said, “Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew. The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

As Martin’s nephew has completely withdrawn his claim, Martin will face no more legal trouble on this matter. The case clearing in court saved him from the penalty of up to fifty years in prison served as a punishment for incest in Puerto Rico. Martin has seemingly returned to business as usual, performing at the Hollywood Bowl on the 21st and interacting with his fans again.
