As 2022 comes to a close, it’s time to look back at the best books that have been published over the past year. From gripping fantasy and romance novels to thought-provoking and emotional non-fiction, this year has seen a wealth of fantastic books hit the shelves. So without further ado, here are five books people are saying are among the best of the year.

Fairy Tale – Steven King

Legendary author Steven King’s newest book, Fairy Tale, was undeniably one of the best books of the year. This novel was one of Amazon’s best-selling books of the year, as well as a New York Times #1 Bestseller and a New York Times Book Review’s Editor’s Choice.

Fairy Tale is the story of Charlie Reade, a seventeen-year-old boy who inherits a secret and a portal to a parallel dimension where he and his dog are pitted against an unparalleled evil threat.

Book Lovers – Emily Henry

Emily Henry’s novel Book Lovers was named Goodreads’ #1 Best Book of 2022 and has over 215,000 5-star reviews on the site. The title of the book is a witty play on words, as Book Lovers follows a literary agent named Nora Stephens and the twists and turns as she navigates the strange coincidences that keep throwing her together with a book editor named Charlie.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow – Gabrielle Zevin

Another top-rated and top-selling book this year was author Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. Author John Green, who wrote The Fault In Our Stars and other popular young-adult novels, called the book “utterly brilliant” and “one of the best books I’ve ever read.”

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow follows Sam and Sadie, who meet in a hospital when they’re young and are brought together by a love of gaming. The book tells a 30-year-long story about love and connection and the protagonists’ need for a human relationship.

A Heart That Works – Rob Delaney

For a nonfiction book that pulls at the heartstrings, one of the best of the year was Rob Delaney’s A Heart That Works. Delaney is an American author and comedian best known for his work in comedy films and television shows, but this memoir is something completely different. In A Heart That Works, Delaney recounts the true story of a tragedy that gripped his family several years ago.

In 2016, Delaney’s infant son Henry was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. After two years of doctor visits and treatment, Henry passed away in January of 2018. A Heart That Works is a story that only a parent who has actually experienced the death of a child could write, and readers agree that it’s one of the most beautiful books we’ve seen in 2022.

The Boys From Biloxi – John Grisham

Any fan of legal thrillers knows the celebrated author John Grisham, and his latest book The Boys From Biloxi has been one of the best-selling novels of 2022. The Boys From Biloxi, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, follows two sons of immigrant families in 1960s Mississippi who grow up to find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Anyone who’s read Grisham’s books knows that this next one, which the New York Post called, “a legal literary legend,” is sure to be a worthwhile read.
