The NYE ball drop in Times Square is one of the biggest New Year’s and holiday events of the whole year, and each year, it includes fantastic performances from a variety of artists who received big awards throughout the year. This year included several artists you’re sure to know, so read on below for seven of the biggest artists who performed in this year’s NYE ball drop event.
Chelsea Cutler
The first musical performance of the night was by singer-songwriter Chelsea Cutler, who performed her songs “Devil On My Shoulder,” “Sad Tonight,” and “Men On The Moon.” Cutler performed on the Planet Fitness Center Stage. Cutler was also the final performance of the night, and she performed a rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” at 11:55, just before the ball drop.
JVKE
Next up for musical performances was Jacob Larson, who performs under the stage name JVKE. JVKE rose to fame by posting musical TikToks during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the Planet Fitness Center Stage, he performed “golden hour,” “this is what falling in love feels like,” and “this is what heartbreak feels like.”
Ava Max
Later in the night came American singer-songwriter Ava Max, who performed her songs “Kings & Queens,” “Million Dollar Baby,” and “Maybe You’re The Problem.” Ava Max signed with Atlantic Records in 2016 and gained popularity following her 2018 hit, “Sweet but Psycho.”
J-Hope
On ABC’s Countdown Stage, South Korean rapper J-Hope performed a medley of his most popular songs. J-Hope gained fame as a member of the K-pop boy band BTS, who are currently on hiatus due to the legal obligation each of the members has to serve in the military before age 28. In 2019, J-Hope became the first member of BTS to enter the Billboard Top 100 charts as a solo artist.
Osmani García
The next performance of the night was Osmani García’s performance for Univision, the United States’ largest broadcaster of Spanish language content. García is a Cuban rapper and singer who performs in the reggaeton style, a form of music that evolved from a fusion of reggae and dancehall music. García performed on the Planet Fitness Center Stage.
New Edition
New Edition is an American R&B group from Boston, Massachusetts, and they’ve been performing together since their formation in 1978. New Edition earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017, and they were inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022. On New Year’s Eve, New Edition performed a medley comprising hits from both the group and each member’s solo career. They performed on the Countdown Stage.
Duran Duran
One of the most well-known groups of the night was the English new-wave band Duran Duran, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Duran Duran has sold more than 100 million records since their formation in 1978 and is known as one of the best-selling rock groups of all time. Like other artists, Duran Duran performed a medley of their biggest hits on the Countdown Stage to finish the performances for the night.
