Netflix has announced that it will be releasing a new animated series titled ‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’ on November 17, 2023. The series is based on the 2010 movie ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ and will feature the entire main cast of the movie. Here’s everything else we know so far about the new anime series.

What is ‘Scott Pilgrim’ anyway?

‘Scott Pilgrim’ is a series of comic books by Canadian author and artist Bryan Lee O’Malley. The series follows the life of Scott Pilgrim, a 23-year-old musician who lives in Toronto, Canada, and plays bass in a band. The story revolves around Scott’s pursuit of Ramona Flowers, an American delivery girl, and his battles with her seven evil exes.

The original edition of the ‘Scott Pilgrim’ comic book series consisted of six digest-size black-and-white volumes which were released between August 2004 and July 2010. The books were originally published by Portland-based independent comic book publisher Oni Press but later republished by Fourth Estate, an imprint of HarperCollins.

In 2010, the film adaptation ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ hit theaters. The film, while an unprofitable box office failure, has become something of a cult classic. 13 years later, ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ has received over 70 awards and nominations and still has a huge following.

Which voice actors are involved in the new show?

To many fans’ delight, the entire main cast of the 2010 film will be returning to their roles for the new anime series. The show stars actor Michael Cera as the title character Scott Pilgrim, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as his girlfriend Ramona Flowers. Also returning as five of Ramona’s evil exes are Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Mae Whitman as Roxy Richter, and Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves.

Who is involved with the production of the new show?

The show will be directed by animator Abel Gongora and animated by Japanese animation studio Science SARU. The studio previously worked with Netflix on ‘Japan Sinks: 2020’ and ‘Devilman: Crybaby.’ The show will be executive produced by Edgar Wright, who previously directed the film adaptation.

Bryan Lee O’Malley, who created the original comic book series that inspired the movie, will be returning to the franchise as a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner along with Ben David Grabinski.
