Hepatitis A Hits America at an Alarming Rate

You have probably read at least something about hepatitis A and how deadly it is, or you have heard some stories from your friends or relatives. One of the biggest problems in America is that many of the homeless have this dangerous disease. Besides the homeless, the drug-using population is also highly infected. It is well-known that hepatitis A can be transmitted sexually or by blood.

This virus is preventable, but once it’s contracted it is too late–and it is often a deadly outcome. San Diego is the most endangered city which struggles with this battle.

Doctors are somehow trying to hide all those numbers of people that contain this virus. When you take a look at the statistics, it may not seem that bad, but in the reality, it is a completely different picture. Many people are not even reported to have this virus. Or they are diagnosed when it is too late.

What is the country doing about this problem? It doesn’t seem like everyone is concerned. That is somehow suspicious because San Diego has spent almost $10 millions of dollars while trying to take care of all those hepatitis A positive patients.

Why isn’t anyone talking about these new illegal drugs that can be found in schools or on the street? Do we have a proper education? Do our children know how to recognize some trouble?

Keeping a healthy public is a hard task, but it can be at least improved upon at least. People should vaccinate themselves against this virus. Of course, we are talking about those people that may have some chances to get it. Besides that, trying to help all those homeless people to get some job would be also a great gesture. It doesn’t have to be anything special, but something that would make them feel as a part of the society.

This problem can be realized as the result of some uncontrolled situation that happened in America. Of course, hepatitis A is a huge problem, but the real battle should be fought against these new illegal drugs that are literally sold like candies.

The homeless have it really bad. I wish better medical care could be given to them. Well, I wish more that they hadn’t been put in that situation that brought them to the streets in the first place.
