It seems so exciting to move somewhere else around the globe. I have thought about doing it several times in my life. Yet, it may not be as easy as it sounds. It is, of course, easy to pack your clothes, but you cannot pack your friends to go with you too, right? We are all well aware of how making new friends is harder once you become an adult, yet, you need to know how it is not impossible! Also, remember how we are talking about a new city here! Check out our advice and start your own journey.
- Your contacts. You can easily make new friends if you try your best to reach out for all the contacts you have. How should you do that? Maybe your ”old” friends, relatives, or even your family knows someone who lives in that city. Be sure that you talk with literally anyone you know, and it doesn’t have to be a best friend only.
- Oh, the comfort zone. Getting out of the comfort zone is always frightening, or at least, it always seems to be like that. Yet, now is the time. You definitely need to get out of the comfort zone if you want to start the new friendships. What should you do about this? Go outside, a lot. Go to the local bar you have noticed, and yes, alone. Go to every event that you like, and trust us, you will become relaxed with time, and the most important thing– you will meet new people!
- Stay with a host family. This isn’t just for exchange programs. If you decide to stay with a host family, we are completely sure how you will make new friends and all that without even leaving your comfort zone. How is that possible? Well, the hosts will 100% meet you with some people that are similar to you. May seem odd to do this as an adult, but it’s more common than you think. Just be sure to use a service such as Lingoo which vets the family, and helps place you with the best match.
- Remember–you have a lot to offer. Always remember that you will also become someone’s friend. Also, be sure that you need to be such person as the one you want to meet. Be kind, honest, and friendly. Be nice to people. Be honest with yourself too.
Now, with our advice, you are completely free to enjoy the new area you live in! We are absolutely sure how you will have a great life and how you will finally meet all those people that will fulfill it even more! Good luck!

To be honest, I’m envious of people that can do this so easily. I struggle to say hi to my new neighbor.
Just what I needed to read as I’ll be starting a new position in Spain soon.
This brought me a great relief! I’ll be going by myself to Europe soon and I really do want to make new friends.
