Although Saturday Night Live has recently been airing reruns, it will soon return following its most recent episode on December 19. Especially exciting is that the new batch of episodes promises a bevy of first-time hosts and musical guests. John Krasinski, Dan Levy, and Regina King will be 2021’s first three hosts, and their episodes’ respective musical guests will be Machine Gun Kelly, Phoebe Bridgers, and Nathaniel Rateliff.

Additionally, for the first time in SNL’s 46-year history, the comedy sketch show has reached a major milestone that, surprisingly, it has not previously reached. According to Nielsen ratings, SNL‘s current season has been ranked number one amongst all comedies in total viewers. The show has reached this top spot on both cable and broadcast in the adults 18-49 demographics.

As SNL restarts following this record-breaking metric, learn all about 2021’s first hosts and musical guests below.

January 30, 2021

Host: John Krasinski

Musical guest: Machine Gun Kelly

John Krasinski will be making his SNL hosting debut on January 30. Krasinki, who recently directed A Quiet Place Part II and launched his popular digital series Some Good News, was supposed to make his SNL hosting debut in March 2020. However, at that time, both the release of A Quiet Place Part II and SNL itself shut down due to the then-new COVID-19 pandemic. A Quiet Place Part II is now scheduled for release in April 2021.

Machine Gun Kelly will be featured as the episode’s musical guest, and his appearance will mark his first-ever SNL performance. His latest album, Tickets to My Downfall, was released in September. Kelly is also a friend of SNL cast member Pete Davidson, who imitated him in a sketch last month.

Phoebe Bridgers will be the night’s musical guest and thus make her SNL musical debut. Bridgers also recently earned her first four Grammy nominations, including for Best New Artist.

Regina King will make her SNL hosting debut on February 13. On December 25, King released her feature film directorial debut One Night in Miami. In addition, King also made headlines in 2020 for winning her fourth Emmy, this time for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role in the HBO limited series Watchmen.

Nataniel Rateliff will end the night as the episode’s musical guest and thereby make his SNL debut. Rateliff’s album, It’s Still Alright, was released in February 2020. His newest single, “Redemption,” was written for and will be featured in the upcoming movie Palmer, which is set for release on January 29 and features Justin Timberlake as the lead role.
