Oreos have been around for over 100 years and have been a favorite cookie for many people. The classic chocolate cookie with vanilla cream filling is a staple in many households. However, did you know that there are many other flavors of Oreos than the classic ‘Double Stuf’ and mint varieties? Many varieties of Oreo cookies have been produced, so here are 6 Oreo flavors you may not know existed.
Oreo history
The Oreo cookie has been around for over 100 years and has become a household staple and a favorite cookie for many people. Oreos were first manufactured in 1912 by the National Biscuit Company, or Nabisco for short. The cookies quickly became one of America’s best-selling brands of cookies, but they are now available in over 100 countries.
Since its launch 111 years ago, Oreos has sold over 450 billion cookies now, making them the best-selling cookie brand in the world. Although the brand is owned by Kraft Foods now, they still produce the exact same classic cookie sandwich that was made by Nabisco in 1912.
Toffee Crunch
The Toffee Crunch flavor is a permanent addition to the Oreo lineup and was launched nationwide in January 2022. These cookies include a special toffee-flavored creme blended with sugar crystals and chocolate chips. As for the cookie, the Toffee Crunch Oreos come with the classic chocolate cookie used in the original flavor.
Salted Caramel Brownie
The Salted Caramel Brownie flavor was launched in 2021 as a limited edition flavor. This flavor was made up of the classic Oreo cookies topped in salt, with a filling of two layers of salted caramel-flavored creme blended with chocolate chips and brownie bits.
Apple Cider Donut
The Apple Cider Donut flavor was also released in 2021 as a limited edition option, but this one used the also-popular golden Oreo cookies as opposed to the classic chocolate flavor. As the name suggests, inside these cookies was an apple cider and cinnamon-flavored, donut-inspired creme filling.
Java Chip
The Java Chip flavor is a permanent addition to the Oreo lineup, and it first hit the shelves in January 2021. These cookies are perfect for coffee lovers, as they consist of java-flavored creme mixed with chocolate chips and sandwiched between two chocolate Oreo cookies.
Caramel Coconut and Chocolate Marshmallow
A year before the Java Chip Oreos were released, the Caramel Coconut flavor was added to the list of Oreo flavors. These cookies involve caramel coconut-flavored creme blended with coconut pieces. They were released alongside the also-popular Chocolate Marshmallow Oreos, which have a marshmallow creme filling.
Hot Chicken Wing and Wasabi
By far the wackiest Oreo flavors out there are the Hot Chicken Wing and Wasabi flavors, which were both released in 2018. Both of these uniquely spicy flavors were available in the Chinese market only, but some Oreo fans in the U.S. and other countries managed to try them. The consensus was that neither wasabi or chicken wings pair particularly well with chocolate.
