Knives Out, a murder mystery movie released in 2019, received critical acclaim for its Agatha Christie-inspired storyline and ensemble cast. In March, Netflix announced that it secured a $450 million deal for the rights to Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3

Netflix’s announcement was a game-changer, as the deal became one of the biggest ever made for the rights to a movie series. Naturally, many fans of Knives Out are anticipating the film’s two Netflix sequels. However, there’s a twist: The cast of the new movies won’t be the same as the first movie.

In fact, if you’ve paid attention to Hollywood news at all lately, you’ve probably seen a whirlwind of news about people joining the cast for the first Netflix-original Knives Out. If you’ve had trouble keeping up with all the announcements, then below, find out who’s in Knives Out 2 and how it will relate to the original.

Who are the new actors?

Over the last month, Knives Out franchise insiders made one-by-one announcements of the new cast members joining Knives Out 2. The detective movie will feature Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn (fresh off her acclaimed WandaVision role), Leslie Odom Jr., and Kate Hudson. Yesterday, it was announced that Madelyn Cline has also signed on to star.

Who was in the original cast?

The original Knives Out ensemble cast featured actors such as Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Christopher Plummer, Don Johnson, Lakeith Stanfield, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, and more.

In the original whodunnit, a wealthy family and several associates gather in an old country mansion after the family’s rich patriarch dies under suspicious circumstances. Although they appear to want to figure out the cause of his untimely death, the movie gradually makes clear that they care more about how much money each one of them will earn from the death of their so-called loved one.

A detective therefore suspects it must be one of the family members who is the murderer, and he interrogates everyone in the family. However, Knives Out is a bit different than other whodunnits: The audience learns who commited the crime far before the detective does. The joy of the movie is watching the detective unspool the family’s many convoluted webs.

Will the family from the first movie appear in the second movie?

In 2020, Knives Out director Rian Johnson announced that the film’s sequel will focus on a new mystery with a different cast. Johnson also stated that only Daniel Craig’s character, detective Benoit Blanc, will be returning.

What do we know about the plot of Knives Out 2 so far?

The cast of Knives Out 2 will start filming in Greece later this month. However, not much else is known about the sequel so far. All that’s known is that Daniel Craig’s character will be solving a new mystery.

According to a report, Johnson, Craig, and Knives Out producer Ram Bergman will be paid $100 million each. In addition to working with Netflix, Johnson is also developing a mystery series called “Poker Face.” The upcoming show will comprise 10 episodes, and actor Natasha Lyonne will star as the main character.
