Just like in the life cycle of every animated Disney classic, Lion King is about to be made into a live-action film.

The movie has an all-star cast starring Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé as Nala. It is to be directed by Jon Favreau who is also a producer (with Walt Disney Pictures and Fairview Entertainment as the production companies). The movie is edited by Mark Livolsi, the music is composed by Hans Zimmer, and Jeff Nathanson wrote the film. Filming started in the summer of 2017 on a blue screen stage in Los Angeles, California, though giving voices to the loved animated characters is still proving difficult.

On Wednesday, the director, Favreau, shared pictures of some of the stars of the movie behind the scenes, and the picture features Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner along with Glover and Favreau. Rogen and Eichner plays the Timon and Pumba, the iconic duo. Beyoncé is notably absent in the photo. Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner both shared the pictures on their own social media accounts.

The cast of the movie all sing the anthem– “Hakuna Matata”. Fittingly, they all seemed to be in a ‘no worries’ kind of mood.

Glover described working with Beyoncé as a ‘little intimidating’ even though Beyoncé is absent from the recording session. When talking to Entertainment Tonight in May, he said “Just hearing her do it, it’s been like, ‘Man, this is a really special thing.”

Billy Eichner had also owned up to being nervous around the big stars on set. He told E!News “I was freaking out. I mean, the cast is amazing. Me and Seth Rogen are Timon and Pumba, so we do ‘Hakuna Matata’ and then we also sing ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ with Simba and Nala, who are going to be voiced by Donald Glover and someone who is named Beyoncé.”

The movie is scheduled to be released July 19, 2019 and it also stars James Earl Jones, John Oliver, John Kani, JD McCrary, Florence Kasumba, Alfre Woodard, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Keegan-Michael Key. James Earl Jones plays Mufasa, the father of Simba which was his original role in the 1994 film. John Oliver plays Zazu. Alfred Woodard casts as Sarabi as John Kani casts as Rafiki.

Eric Andre stars as Azizi while Florence Kasumba will be the voice of Shenzi and Keegan-Michael Key will play Kamari. Shahadi Wright Joseph will be the voice of young Simba while JD McCrary will be the voice of young Nala. Four songs originally from the movie will be used in the new film and the songs are: Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Hakuna Matata, I Just Can’t Wait to Be King and Circle of Life.

The Lion King is a 1994 animated film and just like other Disney animated films such as The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Maleficent and Cinderella that have been remade into live-action films.
