Prince Harry was seen wearing a new ring on his 16-day royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji with his wife Meghan Markle and this has kept royal family fans all over the world wondering what the significance of the new ring is.
This tour is the first royal tour overseas that the couple will take and some are wondering if the ring is a gift from Meghan. Some fans are wondering if it is a meaningful trinket or a piece of jewelry to complement his outfit as the Prince is known to wear jewelry just like the silver bracelets he sports as a tribute to his mom, the late Princess Diana.
The 34-year-old Duke of Sussex wore the black ring on his right ring finger, not on his left ring finger which is for his wedding ring. The ring was first seen on him during the tour though he did not have the ring on him during the royal wedding of his cousin Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on Friday 12th October 2018.
There are speculations as to whether this new piece of accessory might have to do with the royal baby that is being expected. It has been announced by the Kensington Palace that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who got married in May of this year (2018) are expecting their first baby together in the spring of 2019.
The palace said “Their Royal Highnesses appreciate all the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
According to the People Magazine, the ring is a new cutting-edge wearable technology called an Oura ring and it is used for the tracking of sleep and for fitness and it works by collecting data (like the snoozing of the wearer, body temperature, blood volume etc.) by using a 3D accelerometer and gyroscope and sends it to a smartphone. Yes, it works like a Fitbit, just tinier and worn on the finger. It is produced by the Finnish company called ‘Oura Health.’ It also reported that the titanium ring worn in the Heritage Style costs $299.
The Oura Health website explained that ”Oura tracks you 24/7 so you can build an accurate, insightful baseline of information about yourself from which you can grow and improve. Sleep better. Improve your performance. Be Ready. It’s all possible with Oura.”
Some royal fans are wondering if it is a gift from his brother, Prince William who joked at the announcement of the pregnancy that ”Really appreciate your sleep now, Harry, because these are the last months you’ll get it” or the Prince bought it himself.
Anyway, watchers are expecting this to be the next ‘reigning’ fashion item as Prince Harry has been known to be a fashion influencer.
