Four Ways To Celebrate New Year’s at Home

Whether life is preventing you from making New Year’s Eve plans or you actively want to stay home for the holiday, you can easily have fun without stepping outdoors. If anything, there are so many fun stay-at-home New Year’s activities that you might not even know where to start! With that said, below are just four of the many ways you can celebrate New Year’s at home.

1. Stream the NYE ball drop

If you can’t go to Times Square to see the NYE ball drop, you can watch the event from home. The ball drop will be broadcasted on various major news networks, and it will also be available to stream online. Better yet, if you don’t want to be alone while you watch this highly-anticipated NYE event, you don’t have to be – even if that means spending time with people virtually. Try connecting with your loved ones with a video conference service, have a drink, and eat some food while tuning into the ball drop.

2. Attend a virtual NYE party fundraiser

Several clubs and DJs are hosting virtual NYE parties and raves as fundraisers to help people, such as musicians and club promoters, who are financially struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some virtual parties will fundraise for a cause or business, and some events include the option to donate to a charity of your choice from a list of the event holder’s partners. Live virtual fundraising can also be a great way for people across time zones to connect for a good cause.

3. Host a reflection session

Instead of having a big celebratory party, you can set up a video conference with friends and reflect on how you’ve grown from this year. You and your friends can discuss the hobbies you’ve picked up, any books you’ve read, good things or relationships you’ve experienced, or any bad experiences you may have avoided. You can also share your New Year’s resolutions. To create a sense of togetherness, you can send a list of snack ingredients, drink ingredients, and decor ideas to your friends.

After your reflection time, you can play a game with your friends. Games such as Never Have I Ever and Find Out Who, for example, can be a fun way to get closer with your friends. Additionally, you can make your games more exciting by turning them into NYE drinking games (but make sure never to drink and drive, a dangerous combination that is especially prevalent on New Year’s Eve).

4. Make a nice meal for you and the people you live with

With your family, roommates, or partner, you can cook a nice holiday meal and create some delicious drinks. Even having a small family dinner by cooking with a roommate or family member can make for wonderful bonding time. You can help each other by making one dish together, or you can each make one dish and combine the two into a larger dinner. If you want to end your dinner on a relaxing note, you can have a movie marathon or play a video game, board game, or card game.
