As it gets colder after Thanksgiving, hot chocolate may become a staple drink for chilly winter nights. That said, you don’t have to stick with simple supermarket packet-style hot chocolates. If you want to get creative and try an interesting hot chocolate recipe, here are four unusual hot chocolate recipes.

1. Spicy Aztec hot chocolate

If you’re in the mood for an unusually spicy hot chocolate, try adding a kick of chili pepper to your drink. First, melt dark chocolate in a small pot over medium heat. After the chocolate melts, add two cups of milk and a dash of cinnamon and vanilla. Lastly, add one chili pepper split in half with the seeds removed to your hot chocolate. You can keep the seeds in if you want your hot chocolate super spicy.

That’s not the only way to make your hot chocolate especially spicy. Another method is to let your chili pepper sit in the pot for approximately 10 minutes. Alternatively, if you want a little spiciness but not too much, let the pepper sit for just five minutes. Of course, you should discard the chili pepper when you’re done adjusting the spiciness to your preference. View the full recipe here.

2. Unicorn hot chocolate

Unicorn hot chocolate is a trendy, colorful hot chocolate drink made popular by a cafe in Los Angeles. You can make your own unicorn hot chocolate by heating milk in the microwave or in a pot over medium-low heat until it starts to bubble around the edges. In a large mug, add a white chocolate drink mix, white chocolate syrup, white chocolate sauce, powdered milk, and food coloring.

Next, pour about half of a cup of warm milk over the top of your mixture and whisk until your mixture is smooth. Then pour in one cup of milk and whisk your drink again. Top your hot chocolate with mini marshmallows, whipped cream, and rainbow sprinkles for a rainbow of enjoyment. View the full recipe here.

3. Peanut butter frozen hot chocolate

If you’re experiencing a warm winter or you’re just in the mood for a cold and sweet beverage, try a frozen hot chocolate with peanut butter. First, finely chop a quarter-cup of peanut butter cups. In a blender, add two cups of ice and your finely chopped peanut butter cups. In the blender, combine half a cup each of peanut butter and hot fudge sauce. Top off your mixture with a cup of milk and a dash of cocoa powder, sugar, and vanilla.

Blend your delicious hot chocolate mixture on high until completely smooth. Pour your frozen hot chocolate into glasses and add additional peanut butter cups as a garnish with hot fudge sauce drizzled on top and enjoy. View the full recipe here.

4. Creamy Dulce de Leche hot chocolate

For an even richer, creamier touch to your hot chocolate with dulce de leche. To make this delectable hot chocolate treat, pour two-and-a-half cups of milk into a pot and bring it to a boil. Next, reduce the heat and add a quarter-cup of heavy cream. Then, add four tablespoons each of cocoa powder and dulce de leche. Whisk your dulce de leche hot chocolate until it’s smooth, then turn off the stove. Pour your tasty hot chocolate into mugs and top it with marshmallows or whipped cream and enjoy.
