Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and if you’re going to celebrate, it might be time to think about dessert. Although you can easily buy desserts from a bakery or store, fresh, homemade desserts are especially delicious. That said, baking for a holiday can be a little nerve-racking, and you might need some help choosing a recipe. Below, you can find four easy homemade Valentine’s Day desserts.

1. Chocolate cake

This chocolate cake is as simple as it is tasty. In a large mixing bowl, combine one cup of all-purpose flour, one cup of sugar, one cup of hot water, half a cup of baking cocoa, one teaspoon baking powder, and one teaspoon baking soda. Next, add one egg and a quarter cup of butter.

Mix your cake batter well and pour it into a greased eight-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 30 minutes and then cool the cake. Lastly, dust the chocolate cake with confectioners’ sugar or a thin layer of chocolate icing. View the full recipe here.

2. Chocolate-covered strawberries

Enjoy a mouth-watering, fruity dessert with chocolate-covered strawberries. In a double boiler or fondue pot, add 16 ounces of semisweet dark chocolate chips and two tablespoons of shortening. Stir the sweet mixture occasionally until smooth. Stick toothpicks or skewers into the tops of the strawberries, and dip them into the chocolate.

Place the chocolate-covered strawberries on a wax paper-lined dish and drizzle white chocolate on top of them. If you want the chocolate to not drip while you’re eating your strawberries, place them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before serving. View the full recipe here.

3. Strawberry cupcakes

With this simple recipe, you can make some scrumptious strawberry cupcakes. First, preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 24-cup muffin pan or line each slot with paper muffin liners. Beat the following mixture with an electric mixer until it’s smooth: two cups of sugar, 1 ¾ cups of pureed strawberries, a quarter cup of vegetable oil, eggs, and two teaspoons of vanilla extract.

In your strawberry batter, stir in three drops of red food coloring until the color is even. Pour the batter into the 24-cup muffin pan. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 15 minutes. You can then cool the strawberry cupcakes in the pans for 10 minutes before cooling them completely on a wire rack. View the full recipe here.

4. Red velvet hot chocolate

Pair your dessert with a sweet red velvet hot chocolate recipe. To make a delicious whipped cream topping, whip one cup of heavy cream and three ounces of room temperature cream cheese until soft peaks form. Then, fold in half a cup of marshmallow creme and one teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.

To make your red velvet hot chocolate, you can use whole milk, two-percent milk, or skim milk. First, bring two cups of your choice of milk to a simmer in a small pot. Add one cup of semisweet dark chocolate and two tablespoons of Dutched cocoa powder. Stir while cooking until your mixture is smooth.

Mix in one teaspoon of red food coloring and one teaspoon of pure vanilla extract until the mixture is combined. Whisk your red velvet hot chocolate until it’s very frothy. Lastly, pour your hot chocolate into mugs and top your drinks with large dollops of your marshmallow whipped cream. View the full recipe here.
