Music has the power to change your emotions like almost nothing else. The solution to getting yourself out of a funk might be as simple as putting on a song you love, closing your eyes, and just feeling the music. It can be tempting to listen to music that matches your mood when you’re down, but that will keep your mental state right where it is and not help you lift yourself. So put on your favorite oldies or happy pop playlist and relax!

Clean your house

If you can’t tell what it is that’s bothering you, take a look around you. If your surroundings are dirty or unorganized, the funk might be your subconscious mind telling you that something needs to change. Try getting a little spring cleaning done in your bedroom or your home to improve your environment and lift your emotional state.

Too much screen time can also be one of the most common reasons for a funk, so consider doing a technology detox for a little while to let your brain reset and get back to the real world. This could be as simple as plugging your phone in right when you get home and not touching it until you leave the next day, or even deleting social media for a week or two. You might even find that you want to make a permanent change in the way you approach technology.

Serve others

While you might be having a tough time now, there’s always someone who has it tougher. That’s why the best way to get out of a funk could be to look outside yourself and serve someone else

Try donating blood, volunteering at a soup kitchen, helping with a disaster relief program, or reaching out to elderly neighbors and family members who might need help. Not only can doing so help you get out of your funk and back on track, but you’re also providing much-needed service to those in your community.
